The CYO Physical Fitness & Wellness Program

The CYO Physical Fitness & Wellness Program promotes healthy lifestyles through various recreational activities at the CYO Community Center. The program offers an array of physical fitness & wellness topics and activities for youth between the ages of 6-12, including athletics, team-building, sportsmanship, and social and community development. Through this program, children develop a better understanding of wellness and develop life-long habits of a healthy lifestyle. The children are engaged in physical fitness activities/games as well as take part in educational awareness instruction from various community leaders in the medical and wellness fields. Our Physical Fitness & Wellness Program provides adult supervision for all of our activities and adheres to strict rules governing participant behavior to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all.

The Anderson Ave CYO Center provides a safe and enriching environment for children to participate in sports activities, engage in creative activities through arts & crafts, computers, and receive help with their homework.  Our program promotes healthy lifestyles through various recreational activities at the Center.  In recognition of our diverse constituency, the CYO Physical Fitness & Wellness Program promotes cultural awareness, sensitivity and appreciation by inviting guest speakers to talk about various health and wellness related topics.

Our program strategy addresses the stated needs of the Physical Fitness & Wellness Program by providing positive and stimulating activities for children during their after school hours.  The areas of focus will be the following:

Educational Development:  With the assistance of community leaders with extensive health expertise, our program offers youth the opportunity to improve their understanding of a healthy lifestyle through education material and lectures.  Participants also have the opportunity to learn from successful local leaders, as well as staff and alumni who are nearby residents. Our mentors provide constructive feedback, ongoing encouragement and supportive guidance to our young participants in the development of long-term lifestyle habits.

Homework Help: Participants will be offered additional homework assistance during the scheduled hours of operations. Children will have to show the Tutoring Mentors their daily homework assignments received from school in which the children will be given the opportunity to work one on one or collectively.

Physical Fitness: Participants are engaged in activities that will provide the chance to learn new sports/activities while gaining understanding of the impact it will have on their long-term health.
